Coimbatore: Service of government buses in the Coimbatore district has resumed. All buses are being operated as per the guidelines issued by the government.

Bus services, both government and private, were halted since March 25, as part of the lockdown measures that were put in place in a bid to control the spread of COVID-19. Later that relaxations to the lockdown were announced and government bus service inside the eight zones of the state resumed in June. In the Coimbatore Zone, 50 % buses were operated in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode districts. However, bus services were once again stopped in the month of July to control the spread of COVID-19.

The government has now permitted the service of buses within the district and the guidelines for the operation of buses inside the district have been issued by the government. As per the guidelines, 50 % buses have started operating today. Depending on the need, operating more buses is on the cards.

As per the guidelines issued by the Government, drivers and conductors are thermal scanned and they have been provided with face masks, gloves and sanitizers. Further, a maximum of 60 % of the total number of seats will be permitted to be occupied. Conductors have also been advised to ensure that social distancing is being maintained between individuals who sit and stand.

Buses have been ordered to be cleaned with disinfectants after each trip and the passengers can be permitted to board only if they have a face mask on. Sanitizersfor the use of the passengers have also been ordered to be kept in the buses.

In Coimbatore, only buses from the Sungam and Ondipudur depots are in operation currently.
