Coimbatore: The Department of Fire and Rescue of Coimbatore North, South and Ganapathy conducted a mock rescue drill on Monday to test the readiness of the staff to handle rescue operations.

The mockdrill was also aimed at creating awareness amid the public and prepare the rescue team for upcoming monsoon-related emergency support.

The annual mock drill was conducted upon the orders of District Fire and Rescue Officer, Jagadeesan and under the supervision of Deputy District Officer, Thavamani and various Station Officers.

The mockdrill was tactfully performed with firefighters wearing safety equipment who went on a piper boat to rescue 30 people trapped in the Kuruchi lake.

"The mockdrill was conducted as a training exercise on rescue operations in view of the forthcoming monsoon season. More than 30 firefighters and staff participated in the drill", told Officer Thavamani.

He added that similar mockdrills will be held at Mettupalayam, Annur and Periyanayakanpalayam fire department offices at Bhavani river tomorrow to prepare firefighters for the monsoon season.

A large number of the public shot photos and video of the mockdrill on their mobile phones and watched the firefighters perform the rescue operations with awe.
