Coimbatore: Theatre owners of Pollachi lament that the five month lockdown has caused them revenue loss to the tune of crores of rupees.
There are eight cinema theatres in Pollachi on Kovai road, Market road, Kinathukadavu, Kottur Road and Vettaikaranpudur. When the lockdown was announced in March due to the spread of COVID-19, theatres were ordered to be closed down by the government.
Following this, theatres in Pollachi have remained closed for the past five months. Under the circumstances, theatre owners lamented that due to this, a loss of crores of rupees has been faced and many direct and indirect workers have suffered a loss of their livelihood.
The government has now announced relaxations in movie shootings with disease prevention guidelines and movie shootings have started taking place. However, due to the closure of theatres, there is a problem being faced with regard to the release of movies in theatres.
Hence a request has been placed by the theatre owners to the TN government requesting for proper restrictions/ guidelines to be provided and to permit the reopening of theatres.
