Coimbatore: While complaints about the illegal sale of liquor on the lockdown Sundays have been raised continuously, video of illegal sale of liquor at a TASMAC in Kuniyamuthur area, Coimbatore has irked people.
In the video, tipplers who are seen walking at the side doors of the TASMAC and coming back with liquor bottles.
Abiding to the order of the government to stay shut down on Sundays, all industries, hotels, small businesses, street hawkers have given up their revenue and remain closed. However, the Sunday lockdown has not bogged illegal sales of liquor and the tipplers down.
Even, on other days there is absolute violation of social distancing norms. Long queues on all days, especially on Saturdays have been witnessed across all TASMAC outlets.
Under the circumstances, public and social activists continue to raise questions demanding, Why TASMAC outlets and tipplers flout the lockdown rules of the government when everybody else remains home?.
A few more questions that bug the minds of the people are - Have the TASMACs been provided any special concessions to remain open during the lockdown? Doesn't the government's rule directing people to stay indoors on Sundays, apply to these alcoholics?
"With temples, mosques and churches not accorded permission to open, a large section of people, especially elders are under tremendous mental stress of not being able to worship at temples. However, understanding the veracity of the ongoing pandemic which has claimed several thousands of people, we patiently abide by the government's order and limit our prayer offerings at home. Seeing the violation at these TASMACs and the big crowds, it makes us wonder why temples cannot be let open", opine the general public.
