Coimbatore: CPIM condemned the Coimbatore Corporation's notice to the traders to take COVID-19 test for all employees who work in their shops and offices and maintain the record of the same and present it during inspection.

They said due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the private companies and shops have suffered several losses and are unable to pay even half the salary to their employees. Under the circumstances, the corporation's notice to the owners will completely collapse their financial strength causing heavy losses.

Private labs charge Rs 4,500 per test. If a company has to test more than 5 employees, it will cost about Rs 25,000. If this is done every 15 days, it will cause huge losses to the company and hence they stated the notice by the Corporation is very unfair. They stated that if the intention of the corporation is to actually reduce the spread of the diseases by increasing tests to identify the infected, then they must set additional test centers and mobile test centres within the city limits. This will ensure that all the private employees are tested for COVID-19.

They also said the Corporation should come forward to use COrporation Kalaiarangam for treating COVID-19 patients as the cases of infection are on the rise in the city. Hence the Marxist Communist party said that it is not right for the Corporation to issue a statement that favours private labs and hospitals to earn money through tests when businesses are suffering severe losses. They insisted that it is the duty of the Corporation to come forward to test employees of the various private businesses in the city.
