Coimbatore: Tribal people from the Kallaar Settlement near Valparai pass resolutions at the Gram Sabha meeting for providing land pattas at the Teppakulam Medu area.

Coimbatore: Tribal people from the Kallaar Settlement near Valparai pass resolutions at the Gram Sabha meeting for providing land pattas at the Teppakulam Medu area.

Due to the heavy monsoon rains that lashed out last year, landslides occurred in the Kallaar Settlement areas. The residents of this area had to set up temporary huts near the Theppakulam Medu area. The Forest Department that received information regarding this vacated them from the area and lodged them up in the Thaimudi estate workers quarters.

Due to this the Kallar Tribal people placed many requests to the District Collector and the Forest Department to help them settle in the forest area itself.

Hence the Government officials decided to convene the Gram Sabha meeting to pass a resolution regarding this. The Tribal people were promised that recommendations would be made for the provision of pattas immediately. Following this, resolutions were made regarding the provision of land pattas to the tribal people in the Theppakulam Medu area.

Files with the signatures of the tribal people and the officials were sent to the District Administration. The Gram Sabha meeting took place in the presence of the Pollachi Special Tahsildar Kumar, Valparai Tahsildar Rajan, Anamalai Tiger Reserve Assistant Forest Conservator Selvam, Forest Rangers Naveen Kumar, Natarajan, Jayachandran, Manikandan and Valparai Police Inspector Maheswari.
