Tamilnadu Traders Association petitions for action against officials who threaten traders using the pandemic outbreak

Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu Traders Association Federation petitioned to the TN CM to take action against those who compel traders without COVID-19 to undergo COVID-19 testing.

Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu Traders Association Federation petitioned to the TN CM to take action against those who compel traders without COVID-19 to undergo COVID-19 testing.

A petition that was written to the CM reads, "The Tamilnadu Traders Association would like to express our appreciation to the TN government for taking up many constructive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with the welfare of the people in mind."

"The COVID-19 prevention camps that test the people with fever, throat pain and shortness of breath and offer them are all doing a commendable job."

The petition also stated, "When the person from a shop in Coimbatore tested positive for COVID-19, it was isolated. However, currently a few officials in the related departments in many places of Coimbatore demand COVID-19 testing as per their whim, with a motive to make money. They go to various shops and demand even those traders without any symptoms of COVID-19 to undergo COVID-19 testing.

In some shops, to avoid getting the COVID-19 testing done, the officials are paid. Once they are paid the officials do not insist on testing. Those traders who refuse to provide money are threatened that their shop would be sealed. Since the officers operate with an ulterior motive, traders are put through severe stress and worry.

Hence those traders who do not show signs of COVID-19 symptoms must not be compelled to get themselves tested. Further, action must be initiated on those officials who have been threatening the traders with a motive for gain.

These actions, if initiated, will help the traders continue their business without any stress and hindrance."
