More than 50 women lay siege to the office at the cement factory and claimed that the dust from the factory was affecting the nearby residents and got into a quarrel with the persons at the office. Residents alleged that the cement factory continued to operate even during the lockdown. They said the smoke that came out of the factory spread to nearby homes and agricultural lands. They said no action was taken in this regard even after several complaints to the management of the factory.
The inaction led to 50 women from the Kurumbapalayam area who went to the factory office today to talk to the factory management about the issue, but they were stopped by a few factory workers which led to a heated argument. Madukkarai police arrived at the scene after receiving the information and insisted the management to come for a negotiation.
They demanded action to stop the emission of dusty smoke. Since most of the people living in the residential areas around work in the cement factory, they do not come forward to complain. They also urged to come up with a smooth solution to the issue without any political interference.
