Coimbatore: The auction held at the Anamalai Regulatory sales hall witnessed reduced copra supply today. The price per quintal increased by Rs.469. Farmers rejoiced at the price increase.
Speaking about this, the Sales hall Superintendent Manivasagam said, "Farmers in the areas surrounding Anamalai brought 506 sacks of copra for sale. The goods were sorted in the presence of the traders and auctioned by the officials. 285 sacks of first grade copra were sold for a minimum of Rs.9,700 to a maximum Rs.10,808 per quintal. Following this 221 sacks of second grade copra was sold for a minimum of Rs. 6,000 and a maximum of Rs.8,400 per quintal."
The auction held today was taken part by 11 traders and 114 farmers. The warm weather in the surrounding areas of Anamalai have caused the decrease of moisture in copras.
As a result of this per quintal rate of copra fetched an increased price of Rs.469. A total of Rs.22 lakhs was fetched from the auction of 253 quintal of copra.
