Coimbatore: In a bid to clarify the misconceptions regarding the National Education Policy 2020, BJP's State Vice President, Professor P Kanagasabapathi interacted with parents at Anugraha Mandir CBSE Senior Secondary School, Sulur.

In a major move, the central government on July 29, 2020 replaced a 34-year-old National Policy on Education, with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.

While many claim it be ambitious, parents and students trying to comprehend the impact of the new policy with sweeping reforms in syllabus, higher education, teaching and curriculum.

Topics like need for vocational training, three-language policy, mother tongue language as medium of instruction and feasibility of common entrance test were discussed.

Prof Kanagasabapathi emphasised to the parents about "how India was a leader in education and trade much before the British ruled us and how our education policy was ruined, later."

He cited the educational policies of developed countries like Germany, Japan where they teach in their respective mother tongue, even for their higher education grade. They believe that teaching in mother tongue, develops thinking and reasoning among students.

Throwing light on the highlights of NEP, he explained that education and assessment will both become more holistic. NEP promises a holistic learning by letting students choose subjects of their choice for Board exams.

"Vocational training will help nurturing the overall confidence and kindle entrepreneurial spirit among young minds", Prof Kanagasabapathi said.
