In the Following local elections, Sarita, a Dalit woman belonging to the Arundhatiyar community, contested on behalf of the DMK and won the election. Various political parties strongly condemned the allegation that the Dalit panchayat president was not allowed to sit in the office chair. A case has been registered against AIADMK leader Usilamani (A) Balasubramaniam under the SC/ST Violence Act. The State Human Rights Commission took up the issue after several media outfits started reporting the news.

Following this, the State Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to Coimbatore District Collector Rajamani. The State Human Rights Commission has demanded an explanation within 3 weeks for threatening her to not sit in the president's chair and not allowing her name on the signboard.
