Coimbatore: A cage has been set up in Saibaba colony to capture monkeys that are causing a menace. Few monkeys have come into Raghupathi Layout in Saibaba Colony area and are causing a menace to the residents there.



In the last few days the number of monkeys have increased causing severe inconvenience to the public. After the forest department was urged to capture the monkeys, they have set a cage today. The cage is filled with fruits and is set up in such a way that the cage closes as soon as the monkeys enter to eat the fruits.



Two days ago the residents said a dog in house in that is layout has been barking since it saw the herd of monkeys entering. They said the group of monkeys scared away the dog and since then its owner has kept the dog indoors.



Based on the complaint lodged by him, the Forest Department Rapid Action Team is carrying out measures to capture the monkeys. Residents added that only one or two monkeys were in the area earlier and suddenly more than 15 monkeys have been roaming the area for the past few days.

They complained that the monkey are taking clothes, knocking on doors and plucking fruits from trees causing a menace. Few opined that the monkeys visit the area as there are several mango trees and jackfruit trees around.
