Coimbatore: MP PR Natarajan has demanded immediate intervention of the Coimbatore District Collector in the increasing trend of private hospitals in Coimbatore refusing admission of full-term pregnant women who are infected with COVID-19 coming for delivery.

MP PR Natarajan in his letter to the District Collector said that he has been hearing of several private hospitals in Coimbatore refusing to admit pregnant women who are full-term and nearing delivery in their hospitals. He said when enquired about this with the hospitals, they had replied that they cannot offer maternity care to these women as they haven't followed up in that hospital from the beginning and they cannot offer childbirth services without knowing the medical history of the pregnant woman.

He said when the hospital is further pressured, they deny admission saying there are no rooms. When enquired further it was revealed that doctors had denied admission as there are no COVID-19 wards in private hospitals. In his letter he said that this trend is posing danger to both the mother and child. He hence urged immediate intervention of the District Collector and se-up COVID-19 wards with the guidance of the doctors.
