Tirupur: Sanitary workers in Tirupur went on strike demanding two months of pending salary. More than 300 contract sanitary workers are employed for the cleaning work in the four zones under Tirupur Corporation. During the COVID-19 crisis they have been working continuously without an off. Today they indulged in a dharna protest demanding their pending salary for two months in front of the zonal offices.

They said they have been working for more than seven years and still remain as contract workers. They said it is disappointing that they have not even been paid for two months and also the special wages announced have also not been issued. They said this has affected their livelihoods.

They claimed that they have not been provided with any safety equipment and said the protest would continue until a solution was found.
