Coimbatore: A petition was submitted to the Chief Engineer of TANGEDCO, Coimbatore Division to make contract employees permanent.

On behalf of the TNEB Contract workers Association Deputy Secretary Nagaraj, the petition was submitted to the Chief Engineer of TANGEDCO, Coimbatore Division.

The petition stated, "Contract employees have been working in the EB for the past 20 years. Contract employees must be provided approval to continue being employed at the EB. These employees must be identified and ID cards must be issued to them. Further, the contract employees must be provided a minimum wage of Rs.380.

Instead of making these contract employees permanent, plans are being made to introduce a new position called Gang man in the field work division of the EB. More than 1,000 employees will be affected due to this. Hence this plan must be given up", stated the petition.
