Tirupur: Farmers of Tirupur petitioned to the Tirupur District Collector requesting for water to be opened into the Upparu Dam.

The plentiful monsoon rains that poured this year in the Western Ghats has filled the Sholayar and Parambilukam dams in the PAP water catchment areas. Excess water is being released and the Thirumoorthy dam has been receiving 900 cft of water. Water to the PAP 2nd zone will be released from the first week of September.
The Tamilnadu Farmers Association, unaffiliated to any political party has petitioned the Tirupur District Collector to release water to the Upparu dam via Arasur, prior to water being released to the PAP 2nd zone.
Further they also suggested that if the Upparu dam is filled with water from the Arasur shutters through the underground pipeline, just as it is done in the Athikadavu- Avinashi scheme, then excess water will not be wasted and the livelihood of the farmers will be improved. They requested the District Collector to insist this to the TN CM.
