Coimbatore: 9 VHP members were arrested in Coimbatore today for installing Ganesha idols in public place defying ban.
Police are taking action against those who have installed Vinayagar idols in public places defying ban by the government. Though there is ban by the government and court, there are Vinayagar idols installed publicly in many places of Coimbatore particularly in areas like Saravanampatti and Selvapuram. Nine VHP members who installed Vinayagar idols in public places defying ban have been arrested. Police also confiscated the Ganesha idols which had been placed in violation of the ban.
Police have intensified action on removing idols that are placed in public places without permission and in defiance of the ban.
Police are involved in surveillance work across the city to remove idols placed in defiance of the ban and to control any processions that might happen. It is to be noted that 3000 policemen have been deployed for security to avoid untoward incidents in Coimbatore today.
