Coimbatore: Members of all parties submitted a petition to the Pollachi Sub Collector and the Forest Department Officer to provide the tribal people who were affected by landslides last year with basic facilities.

Coimbatore: Members of all parties submitted a petition to the Pollachi Sub Collector and the Forest Department Officer to provide the tribal people who were affected by landslides last year with basic facilities.

The Pollachi forest range that is situated in the Western Ghats houses 18 tribal settlements. The tribal people who live here have been lacking basic amenities for many years now. During the rainy season these people are affected by the landslides that occur and by other natural calamities. Their houses get damaged and they suffer from the lack of a proper residence.

A landslide that occurred in 2019 in Nagar Ootru and Kallaar Kudi near Pollachi damaged the houses in the region and all the people were moved to temporary accommodations. However, it has been a year since the landslide occurred and the people of the region are still lacking basic amenities such as a safe house, toilets and road facilities. No arrangements have been  made regarding this.

These people who were affected by a natural calamity are now suffering without the basic amenities. Hence they must be provided with a safe accommodation and other basic necessities, requested the DMK, Communist party, MDMK and the Tribal people Association.

A petition was submitted in this regard to the Pollachi Sub Collector and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director.
