Coimbatore: When new residences are created in the areas under the Pollachi Municipality, space will be allotted for park or public utility. But in doing so, the lands allotted for the park or to make the link path are occupied due to lack of adequate maintenance.

The park sites under the municipality were inspected upon the orders of Pollachi Municipal Commissioner George. At the time, it was revealed that 27.8 cents of the land in the approved land section on Palladam Road Rathinasabapathy yard, which is owned by the municipality, was occupied illegally.

It has been used by some as a volleyball court and gym. According to the municipality, the notice was duly issued to hand over the land which had been occupied for many years.

In this case, the land worth ₹1 crore was recovered by the municipal officials today. The notice board is placed as the place to be setup as a park.

Further, the public has demanded that such encroachments take place due to lack of maintenance and that the municipality should immediately start the work of setting up a park there without further delay.

Accordingly, steps are being taken to bring the park into public use as soon as possible, the municipality said.
