Vigilance officers nab power plant employee who took bribe from a farmer in Pollachi

Coimbatore: Tamilnadu Electricity Board employee who received a bribe of Rs. 2000 from a farmer to change the name of the electricity connection in Pollachi was arrested today by the DVAC officers.

Amarnath is a farmer from Kongal town near Pollachi. He has recently purchased 4 acres of agricultural land from Jayavel in Pannaikinatu near Kudimangalam.



He sought the Electricity Board office in Pollachi-Udumalai Road to change the name of the electricity connection to the land. 

Augustine Christopher, the electricity account supervisor who works there, has demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to change the name on the electricity connection. Following this, he was forced to provide a bribe of 500 rupees to Christopher.

He has also said that the name will be changed only if the remaining amount is paid.

Affected by this, Amarnath lodged a complaint with the District Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department.

Following this, police led by Sasileka, an undercover anti-corruption investigator who was there today, bribed Augustine Christopher to bribe farmers with chemical powdered banknotes.

Later, the Coimbatore District Vigilance Anti-Corruption Police filed a case against him and produced Augustine Christopher in a special court in Coimbatore.
