The Nilgiris: A sit in protest staged by the Wellington Cantonment workers came to an end as the management agreed to their demands.

Parameshwaran, a sanitation worker at the Wellington Cantonment died due to ill health a couple of months ago. The management did not provide the PF and other financial benefits that were to be provided to the family of Parameshwaran. Instead they compelled the wife of Parameshwaran, Pavun, to vacate the quarters that they were living in. Agitating against this, the Sanitation Workers Association held continuous protests.

Stating that the family of a fellow employee was being forced to vacate without being provided any financial benefit and that it has affected them greatly, the Sanitation workers Association sat in continuous protest inside the Wellington Cantonment campus under the leadership of the Sanitation workers association President Ashokan.

The association had also warned that the protests would be intensified if there was no constructive answer from the management.

Meanwhile the management had responded stating that arrangements would be made to provide the financial benefits of the deceased within 24 hours. They also provided time until August 31 for the family to vacate the quarters. Following this the protest was ended.
