Increase permitted number of participants in marriages - TN Marriage Hall associations
Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu marriage hall and related industry associations requested the CM to save their livelihood by increasing the permitted number of participants in marriages.
The Tamilnadu Marriage Hall Owners Association President Singai Muthu while addressing media persons said, "The 'COVID-19' virus outbreak has heavily affected this sector. There are more than 10 lakh allied industries functioning in this sector such as marriage decorators, catering services, photographers, music instrument players etc., in which more than 20 lakh people are employed. Apart from this, many lakhs of people are employed both directly and indirectly. All the families involved in the various jobs in this field rely on marriages and various other functions which take place in marriage halls for their livelihood.
At present due to the spread of the pandemic the government has reduced the number of participants in the marriage functions drastically. Due to this most of the bookings made earlier have been cancelled and also the interest of people in booking marriage halls has dwindled since the number of participants permitted is very less.
In order to save the livelihood of many lakh people, we request the Chief Minister to permit more number of people to participate in marriage functions. They could permit 50% participants just like the permission given to hotels. Also we request to help in availing bank loans under the special schemes implemented recently. The State government should also help in reducing the GST tax rates from 18% to 5% for this sector. Out of all marriage halls only 2% are catering to the needs of more expensive weddings which is to be noted. We hope the Chief Minister will consider our requests", he said.
Office bearers of various allied industry associations were also present during the press meet.
