Coimbatore: Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations this year are to be conducted only at homes following the order of the Central government and the Madras High Court ruling.

Coimbatore: Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations this year are to be conducted only at homes following the order of the Central government and the Madras High Court ruling.

As per an order issued on July 29, 2020, by the Central Government, under the National Disaster Management Act, all religious celebrations and prayer gatherings in all parts of the country have been banned due to the spread of COVID-19.

Under the guidance of the Central Government and due to the spread of COVID-19 in the state, to prevent the disease spread the State government issued an order against installing Vinayagar idols in public places and to conduct prayers in public places.

Vinayagar Visarjan processions which take the idols to dissolve them in water bodies have also been banned, considering the welfare of the people. Hence the government advised the public to celebrate Vinayagar Chathurthi from their homes this year.

The Chennai High Court that heard many Public Interest Litigation cases and ordered the public to follow the Government order.
