Bear movement on the rise in Nilgiris

Coimbatore: Since the season of Indian Blackberries (jamun fruit) has begun, several bears are found on the roads and tea estates in Nilgiris to eat them.








The Nilgiris: Since the season of Indian Blackberries (jamun fruit) has begun, several bears are found on the roads and tea estates in Nilgiris to eat them.

This has frightened the public and the tea estate workers in the district.



A bear wandered in the Kotagiri Aravenu area and climbed a jamun tree to eat fruits. When a worker came by, alerted by the sound the bear ran away.

The people of the area have demanded that the forest department monitor the movement of bears and take action to drive the bears into dense forests before any untoward incident occurs.
