Coimbatore: The CPIM strongly condemned the Coimbatore Corporation's attempt to impose Hindi. The party cadres criticise that the central government has been trying to impose Hindi through the new education policy while the state government has made it clear that it will implement a bilingual policy in Tamil Nadu as people registered a strong opposition.
In this situation, the Marxists condemned the attempt of the Coimbatore Corporation to impose Hindi on students during submission of application forms. They said that the act is against the Government of Tamil Nadu and condemnable.
The issue arose as the No. 14 section in the application form for Standard 1 had asked if the child wanted to opt to learn Hindi or Occupational course. The Marxists questioned when the government had vouched to follow bilingual policy then why such a query was added in the application form. They asked if it was added by the Corporation or the State Education department was behind it. They said this act raises questions whether the government is really going to follow bilingual policy or impose Hindi.
In a statement released by Coimbatore District Secretary V. Ramamoorthy he questioned if the Government of Tamil Nadu has begun to implement a new education policy that incorporates the BJP's system of caste education. He also demanded the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Corporation of Coimbatore to clarify this immediately and warned to protest in front of the Corporation office if no proper clarification is given.
