Coimbatore: Installation of Ganesha idols has been banned in public places ahead of Vinayagar Chathurthi falling on August 22. 7 flying squads have been appointed in Pollachi to monitor this.
The Vinayagar Chaturthi festival is scheduled to take place on the 22nd across the country. Currently, with the lockdown in place conducting installation and visarjan process is unreasonable and the government has thus banned it.
A special consultation meeting on Vinayagar Chaturthi was held at the Pollachi Sub-Collector's Office with Sub-Collector Vaithiyanathan chairing the meeting. Tahsildar and Deputy Superintendents of Police from Pollachi, Anaimalai Kinathukkadavu and other areas attended the meeting
The Sub-collector said, "Installation of the statue and visarjan processions has been banned. It is also not permitted to install statues in front of temples. Usage of loudspeakers and any form of gathering is banned. People are free to celebrate the festival in their home by buying statues following social distancing. Public safety is paramount".
"To ensure this, seven flying squads have been set up to monitor the irregularities. If the statue is placed in public places, action will be taken by the Revenue department and Police" he said.
