Corporation officials said the renovation work of the Kurichi Kulam at an estimated cost of Rs 52.16 crore under the Smart City project on behalf of the Coimbatore Corporation will begin soon.

Various projects worth Rs 998 crore are being carried out, including rehabilitation of ponds, provision of 24-hour drinking water, underground project, power generation by solar panels, conversion of street lights into LED lights, parking of multilevel vehicles and construction of model roads.



The project is to be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs. 52.16 crore to rehabilitate the Keel Kurichi Kulam. Kurichi Kulam is one of the most important water bodies in Coimbatore with an area of 334.92 acres. The capacity of the pond is 50 million cubic feet. The total catchment area of the pond is 12.30 sq. Km.

In this regard, a corporation official said that 5.50 km cycling path, 5.50 km walking path, decorative arches at four places on the pond, 47 snack bars and various small shops at the edge of the pond, synthetic playground for children at three places, erection of national flags on Coimbatore-Pollachi road, two Green community halls at 4 locations, solar panels at 4 locations, wind turbines at 36 locations, observation decks at 23 locations to view the beauty of the pool, special observation deck for viewing the sunset view in the evening, solar fountain at 2 locations inside the pool, and 2 sewage treatment plants and various facilities including will be in place.

He said the work is all set to begin soon.
