Coimbatore: Due to underground sewer canal work in Pollachi, heavy vehicles are diverted to narrow lanes, causing traffic congestion.

In Pollachi, underground sewer work has been going on at a slow pace for the last four years. As a result, heavy vehicles are unable to travel on major roads in the city, including Market Road, Venkatramanan Road, New Project Road and many other shopping areas.

As a result, heavy vehicles carrying essential items from various districts to areas including Kerala are diverted to the narrow lanes of the city.

In addition, lorries coming from areas including Netaji Road, Raja Mill Road and Market Road are overloaded and get stuck with overhead power lines, causing frequent traffic snarls and severe difficulty to motorists.

Therefore, Pollachi motorists have demanded that the traffic police should not allow heavy vehicles to use the narrow lanes.
