51 employees of  Kalyan Jewellers in Coimbatore test positive for Covid-19; case filed against Management under two sections.

Coimbatore: A case has been filed under two sections on Kalyan Jewellers in Coimbatore for not following Covid precautions which allegedly had led to 51 of their employees contract novel coronavirus.

According to reports, Kalyan Jewellery which operates on 100 feet road in Coimbatore was closed for fumigation after a customer who recently visited the shop turned positive for Covid-19. 

As per protocol, the employees of the shop were subjected to PCR testing and of which, 51 of the 90 employees were tested positive for Covid-19 Subsequently, depending on their illness, they were admitted to Coimbatore ESI Hospital, Government Hospital, CODISSIA Covid Care Centre and a private hospital, for treatment.

As a major cluster has been confirmed within the jewelery shop, the health department officials have requested people who visited the shop recently, topresent themselves to the nearest primary health centre or Government hospital for PCR testing. 

Citing violation of Covid precautions and recklessness by the jewellery shop which has allegedly attributed to a major cluster, the health department officials have lodged a complaint with the police against the management ofthe Jewelery shop. 

The police have registered a case against Kalyan Jewelery management under two sections and are investigating the issue.
