Domesticated elephants weighed at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve

The Nilgiris: The domesticated elephants that are brought up at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve were weighed today.

The Forest department informed, "The elephants at the reserve are weighed once in three months. This is done to protect the health of the elephants and to increase their longevity."

A total of 24 elephants at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve were weighed at the weighing station at the Thorapalli Check post. It was done under the supervision of Forest Ranger Dayanand. It was informed that all the elephants had gained between 100 and 150 kgs.



They further informed, "Changes will be made to the food and medicines that the elephants receive depending on the weight of the elephant, their age and height. This will be done to maintain a healthy weight."
