Coimbatore: A seven-month pregnant cow that chewed on a country-made bomb wrapped in some fodder, left out to hunt wild animals, got its mouth blasted and is in a critical state.

The areas surrounding Mettupalayam including Karamadai, Sirumugai and Periyanaickenpalayam forest areas have been witnessing the increase in hunting of wild animals like boars and deer using country-made bombs. A country-made bomb called 'outtukaai' is usually hidden in cow fat or other foods favoured by animals and thrown into the areas near forests, by miscreants. Boars, deer and elephants that attempt to eat this are killed by the concealed bombs.

A cow that was grazing at Kallar Sutru Sengalpadugai within the Mettupalayam forest area consumed one such country-made bomb that had been kept to hunt boars and got its mouth blasted. The blast ripped its mouth open and tore the tongue. The cow is now suffering for life and is in a critical state.

The cow belongs to one Abdul Khadar and had been missing for the past two days. Search for the cow revealed its critical condition. A case has been filed with the Mettupalayam Forest Department. The investigation by the Forest Department revealed that consuming the country-made bomb had blasted and ripped the cow's mouth.

The seven month pregnant cow is now in a sorry state without being able to drink water or eat food. The cow also has a suckling calf. The critical condition of the cow has caused immense sadness to the people in the area.

Many such cows have lost their lives due to the planting of such country-made bombs by gangs that hunt wild animals at the Kallar, Odanthurai and Velliyankaadu, Kandiyur areas. Even wild elephants have lost their lives to these country-made bombs.

The affected have requested severe action against the miscreants and gangs that are involved in such heartless activities before they take away some human lives as well.
