TNAU Celebrates 74th Independence Day
Coimbatore: The Independence Day celebration was held in TNAU on August 15, 2020.Dr. N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) hoisted the National flag and gave away the Independence Day speech.
The Vice-Chancellor in his 74th Independence Day address recalled the eternal memories of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for a new lease of life. He stressed to enhance the income of the farming community. He said the university has supplied quality seeds of about 148 tonnes of breeder seeds, 583 tonnes of foundation seeds, 153 tonnes of certified seeds, 965 tonnes of TFL seeds and 23.8 lakh planting materials during 2019-20. During January 2020, the university has released 13 new improved varieties for the benefit of the farming community.
He said during Covid-19 lockdown, our stakeholders, the farmers of Tamil Nadu, did not let the State suffer from the problem of food availability to the citizens of India. He said that our farmers are harvesting the fields and creating new records in foodgrain production. He also appreciated the services rendered by the TNAU scientists for the farming community during Covid-19 pandemic period. He praised the TNAU scientists, farm labourers and sanitary workers for their contribution during the pandemic period.
He said the efforts of the Deans/Directors and faculty members have kept the students alert and in touch with their curriculum and research activities of TNAU. He said they set an example to all SAUs by launching online classes and Online Agricultural Graduate Students Conference (AGSC) well ahead of others, which was highly appreciated by everyone and especially by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
He added that their expertise in Biotechnology and Nanotechnology helped in a big way during the Covid-19 pandemic to extend helping hands to the Public Health Department. University Officers, Scientists, and Staff of TNAU campus participated in the celebrations.
