Coimbatore: CITU protests in Valparai against TANTEA demanding 9-point requests be met. Tamil Nadu State Tea Plantation Corporation's Cinchona estates in Valparai employ more than 2,000 workers. Meanwhile, CITU announced a demonstration demanding workers' 9-point requests be met including payment of salary arrears from April 1 to May 3 . Following this, a reconciliation meeting was held today at the Valparai Thasildhar's Office under the chairmanship of Valparai Thasildhar Rajan to resolve the issues.

They demanded that the management should pay the salary arrears of Rs. 12.50 paise and sick leave pay. They said they have to be provided with umbrellas and cum-boots. They demanded that the TANTEA management should avoid threatening to withhold seven days' salary if a worker does not work for one day. They also requested that PF should be formally linked with the Lawson Line zone.

At the end of the talks, it was assured that action would be initiated and amicable decisions would be made soon. Following this, the protest was called off. Raj, Union General Secretary Sellathurai Selvaganapathy, Thillai Ratnam, Vijayendran, TANTEA Group Committee Marimuthu and union members participated in the meeting.
