74th Independence Day celebrated without much fanfare in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The 74th Independence Day was celebrated in a simple and safe manner with basic precautionary measures in VOC Grounds, Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The 74th Independence Day was celebrated in a simple and safe manner with basic precautionary measures in VOC Grounds, Coimbatore.



Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the mobile numbers of all those who attended the event on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day of India were recorded, their body temperature was checked, their hands were washed with disinfectant and they were allowed to participate in the event after being provided with masks.



They were allowed to attend the event after routine police checks. After this, District Collector K. Rajamani hoisted the national flag at the VOC ground at exactly 8.52 am and accepted the police honours. 



Right after this, colorful balloons were launched into the sky. A glass barrier was erected between the district collector's vehicle, which the police accepted. It is noteworthy that only 67 guards attended the guard of honor march led by Armed Forces Inspector Saravanan.

Awards were then presented to 90 people from 13 departments who excelled during the Coronavirus pandemic. This included 6 in ESI Hospital, 7 in Government Hospital, 10 in Health Department, 5 in Deputy Directorate of Health, 10 in City Police, 5 in District Police, 8 in Corporation, 6 in town panchayat, 6 in panchayat, one in the Department of Transport, one in the Department of Food Safety and 20 in the Department of Revenue.



They were presented with certificates and awards. The event was attended by District Revenue Officer Ramadurai Murugan, West Zone IG Periaiah, Commissioner of Police Sumit Sharan, District Superintendent of Police Arularasu, Deputy Commissioner of Law and Order Stalin, Deputy Commissioner of Crime Uma, Deputy Commissioner Gunasekaran, Deputy Commissioner of Transport Mutharasu.

Due to the pandemic situation and lockdown restrictions in place, usually, the Independence Day, which is marked with a lot of pomp and gaiety was a low-key affair, this year both at New Delhi and other States.
