The Bhavani Sagar dam is the prime source of water for Erode District. The total capacity of the dam is 105 feet. The catchment areas of the dam include Avalanche, Kundah, Kotagiri and Gudalur in the Nilgiris. Excess water released from the Pillur dam reaches the Bhavani Sagar.

The water that is released from the Bhavani Sagar travels through Lower Bhavani, Kalingarayan, Thadepalli and Arakkan Kottai canals and irrigates nearly 2,50,000 acres of land.

As per the status today, the water level in the dam was 101.50 feet. Water reserves are currently 29.9 TMC.

Day before yesterday, the water inflow to the dam was 6,667 cft. The reduction of rainfall in the catchment areas has led the inflow to the dam to be reduced to 6,498 cft. 1,300 cft water is being released from the dam for drinking water and irrigation purposes.
