Coimbatore: Kadateswara Subramaniam, the state president of the Hindu Munnani, spoke to reporters at the Hindu Munnani office in Coimbatore. He said that the Hindu Munnani strongly condemned the ban imposed by the Tamil Nadu government on Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
He said the ban would affect the livelihoods of idol makers and potters. He said celebrating the festival. He said worshipping Lord Ganesh would give courage and confidence to the 99% of the Tamils who believe in the existence of god. He lambasted that pro-Naxalite government officials falsely guided the chief minister who in turn implemented the ban on Ganesh Chathurthi for political mileage and votes from minority communities.
He said that the government should give permission for the Ganesha Chaturthi festival and if not, they will put up Ganesha idols in one and a half lakh places across Tamil Nadu in violation of the government's ban out of which 3,000 statues would be placed in Coimbatore district alone.
He said that TASMAC outlets should not have been opened if the government wants to really prevent the spread of coronavirus, but they are open. He questioned, "Why should security not be provided for the Chaturthi festival just like they provide it to TASMAC outlets?"
