Coimbatore: In a recent announcement, the Coimbatore District Collector has informed that permission must be sought from the Tahsildhar for conducting wedding ceremonies in the district.
Despite certain relaxations on lockdown, the TN government has denied permissions for huge gatherings like weddings and other ceremonies. With strict social distancing rules, the state government has restricted gatherings at weddings to not more than 50 people.
As the new rules, now allow a maximum of 50 people to attend a wedding, families are opting for banquet halls in hotels over marriage halls and small temples to conduct the weddings.
Apprising on the wedding norms, District Collector, K Rajamani who is back to duty after his recent recovery from COVID has informed that it is mandatory for families to obtain permission to hold weddings.
"They can either approach the Tahsildar or the District Collectorate for permission. However, any violation in the norms by allowing more than 50 people will be dealt strictly", the Collector told.
He added that all guests should mandatorily wear face masks and maintain social distancing.
