The Nilgiris: A third year student at the Naples University in Italy, from Ooty allegedly committed suicide due to stress. The Minister of State for Foreign affairs has promised action to bring back the body of the student home.

Farmer Sadhananda and his wife Pushpa of the Thooneri region in Ooty, Nilgiris district have two sons Sujith and Prathiksh. While the elder son Sujith works in Italy, the younger son Prathiksh (20) studied third year Medicine at the Naples University in Italy.

When the spread of COVID-19, increased in Italy a complete lockdown was proposed in the country. Prathiksh was the only Indian student at the University and he studied through online classes. This had led him to suffer from mental stress. Following this, Prathiksh left the University and stayed with his brother Sujith at Fermo.

However, his stress levels continued to increase. He then consulted with a psychiatrist and was undergoing treatment and was getting better. However, on Monday he committed suicide by jumping off from the third floor of a building.

The Nilgiris District BJP President Mohanraj requested the Tamilnadu BJP Vice president Vanathi Srinivasan to make arrangements to bring the body of the student back. Vananthi Srinivasan contacted the Central Minister for State Muralidharan and requested for arrangements to be made to bring the remains of the student back to India. Minister Muralidharan promised action on this.
