They have been granted the right to a degree in their area of residence under the Forest Rights Act of 2006. They were resettled following a landslide in the Kallar Settlement area following the floods in 2017.
Forest department settled them in a nearby tea estate. In this situation, the tribal people have repeatedly petitioned the District Collector, the Sub Collector and the Forest Department, urging them to allot a plot of land in the forest area.

They warned if no action was taken, they will protest. Following this, Valparai Tahsildar Rajan led by Inspector Maheshwari held talks with them.
The meeting was attended by Valparai Tahsildar Rajan, Police Inspector Maheshwari and more than 30 tribals. Negotiations were made in the meeting following which the protest was called off.
