Coimbatore: In an exclusive interview with SimpliCity, Air India Commander S Bhagat Singhsaid that the atmosphere inside the flights operated under 'Vande Bharath' looks grimly different and heart breaking since most of the citizens are returning to India after losing their livelihood.
He said, "It has been 26 years for me in this sector. Unlike our routine duty in the normal days, the entire situation has changed after this 'COVID-19' outbreak. I feel proud to work under the 'Vande Bharat Mission', bringing stranded Indian citizens back from various foreign countries to India.
The atmosphere inside the flights which are operated under the Vande Bharat mission looks grimly different since most of them are returning back after losing their livelihood. Specifically, many people are not getting sufficient medical facilities due to which some of them board the flights in stretchers. These scenes are heart breaking. Each and every one of them would have gone to various foreign countries spending many lakhs with many ambitions and dreams. Suddenly this pandemic outbreak has affected them and pushed them to crisis."
Talking about the mission he said, "Each pilot has to undergo ''COVID- 19' testing thrice each and every duty. If we test positive and recover completely, it would not be able to join duty easily. There are various medical formalities we have to undergo and get cleared."
"Informing us about the flight operations he said, "Usually pilots will go through stress during take-off and landing. The stress would particularly be more during take-off. For example, if we fly from Chennai to Singapore to bring back our citizens, the fuel tank will be fully loaded and would be used for the return too.
Hence while taking off the flight with a full load of fuel, there is more risk involved because the flight would be operated at high speed during take-off and if any engine fault or fire accidents happen, the damage would be more. While landing too there would be more stress, especially if weather is not good or if any malfunction is witnessed.
The pilots are on air above many thousand feet working for many hours and while landing, if any of the above issues are witnessed, then the pilots would go through much more stress. In spite of all the challenges we face each time when we report for duty, we do our best to ensure a safe journey to the passengers", he added.
