Coimbatore: Special classes for the Tribal students in Aliyar, Pollachi have commenced with six teachers, today. These tribal students do not have electricity facilities at their residence.
There are 18 tribal settlements near Pollachi including Navamalai, Chinnaru, Sarkarpathi, Koomaati and Erumai Paarai. Residential schools in the region function for the benefit of the students from these settlements.
Since schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Department of School Education government has been conducting online classes and classes through the Kalvi TV.
The students residing in the surrounding areas of Anamalai faced difficulties in attending these online classes as they do not have electricity, cellphones, laptops and television. These students faced a big challenge in continuing their education.
Hence the government was requested by the Tamilnadu Tribal People Association to pay special attention towards the education of the tribal students.
Following this, under the orders of the Coimbatore District Collector, the Puliyankandi Government Elementary school near Aliyar began schooling for the tribal children in the first phase.
Led by Principal Chitra, six teachers started tutoring 18 students in separate rooms in order to maintain social distancing.
