Coimbatore: An elderly tribal man who was on his way back home after collecting old-age pension was attacked by a wild elephant and grievously injured near Karamadai.
Rangaresan (70) from the Kadamankombai tribal village in Nellithurai Panchayat near Karamadai walked through dense forests to the Pillur dam area to collect his old age pension. On his way back, a wild elephant that had been hidden behind a bush attacked Rangaresan.
Passers-by who heard Rangaresan screaming chased the elephant away. Following this, they rescued the grievously injured old man and sent him to the Mettupalayam GH in a 108 ambulance.
The doctors who examined Rangaresan sent him to the Coimbatore GH hospital for further treatment as he sustained severe injuries to his hip, hands and legs.
District Forest Officer Venkatesh is leading an investigation into this matter that is conducted by the forest department.
