Incessant rains in Western Ghats; Aliyar Dam reaches 101 feet..!

Heavy rains in the Western Ghats and catchment areas of Aliyar dam have led to it reaching 101 feet.

Coimbatore: Heavy rains in the Western Ghats and catchment areas of Aliyar dam has resulted in a steep increase in water level 101 feetagainst 120 feet, the full reservoir capacity.



With the Southwest monsoon gaining momentum, water levels at the Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project dams near Pollachi have been rising rapidly, over the last few days.

The water level in the Aliyar dam which remained below 60 feet during last month has rose to 101 feet after been the catchment areas of the Aliyar Dam, including Kadamparai, Upper Aliyar, Kavarkal and Shakti Estate has been receiving good rainfall. With average to heavy rains predicted for the next few weeks, the dam is expected to reach its full reservoir capacity, opine the farmers of the region who are rejoicing the rainfall forecast.

As of today, the water inflow to the dam is 1794 cft.
