Coimbatore:The underground sewerage works being undertaken in Pollachi have been criticised by the DMK as unplanned work and wastage of the taxpayers money by the AIADMK government. They staged a protest by hoisting black flags in front of their houses in Pollachi yesterday.
The Underground sewerage projects that began in 2016 were allotted Rs.110 crores for the 36 wards in the urban areas. Further Rs.70 crores has been allotted for the improvement of the roads and the work has been undertaken for the past four years.
The Pollachi market road, Bazaar street, New Scheme road are all dug up for the underground sewerage works and have not been closed for many months. Similarly, when the roads were dug up for the underground sewerage works, drinking water pipelines were broken causing water shortage in the region. The damaged roads have caused a lot of trouble to the public and the motorists.
Hence the DMK executives hoisted black flags in front of their houses protesting the snail paced work of the underground sewerage works and demanded quick completion of the work. They alleged that the project was not properly planned and that the AIADMK's indifference has wasted the taxpayers money leaving the city with huge potholes.
Party cadres protested in front of the house of the Coimbatore South District Incharge Thendral Selvaraj, at the DMK Party office led by the speaker Vadugai Palanisamy, on Netaji road led by the District representative Amutha Bharathi and in the Jothi Nagar area led by the Agriculture wing Deputy organiser Senthil. They raised slogans against the government.
The Coimbatore South District Incharge Thendral Selvaraj said, "Due to the carelessness of the AIADMK government, the underground sewerage projects have been undertaken at a slow pace. The contractor for this work must be changed immediately and the work should be completed soon."
