Coimbatore: A traffic police inspector and a sub-inspector from Kattoor Police Station who allegedly failed to properly investigate an accident case involving a policeman have been transferred to the police control room.

Inspector Amudha and sub-inspector Annammal from Coimbatore Central Traffic Police, Kattoor who failed to properly investigate the case of a car colliding on a two wheeler on July 5, near Gandhipuram have been transferred to the Control Room.

Indrani and her son Madan from Siddhapudur were seriously injured as a Swift Desire car driven by Nagaraj, a head constable with Coimbatore Armed Forces division, collided with their two-wheeler near the Coimbatore Textool Bridge at 11 pm on August 5. They were admitted to a private hospital here in critical condition.

When enquired, Nagaraj said the vehicle was driven by one Rajkumar on that day. Hence, Rajkumar was charged with causing a car accident (Section 279) and the police registered a case under the section 338 (endangering human life). Intense scrutiny of the CCTV footage revealed that Nagaraj was the driver, not Rajkumar. Following this, Kattoor Traffic Police registered a case against him.

It is notable that Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Mutharasu recommended the Deputy Commissioner of Armed Forces to take departmental action against Nagaraj for causing the accident and falsifying information.
