Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) recommends departmental action against police personnel for causing accident and falsifying information

Coimbatore: The Deputy Commissioner of Transport, Mutharasu. has recommended to the Deputy Commissioner of Armed Forces to take departmental action against Head Constable Nagaraj for causing an accident and giving false information.

Nagaraj is the Head Constable at Coimbatore Armed Forces division. Indrani and her son Madan from Siddhapudur were seriously injured as a Swift Desire car driven by Nagaraj collided with their two-wheeler near the Coimbatore Textool Bridge at 11 pm on August 5th. They were admitted to a private hospital hree in critical condition.

Examination of CCTV footage of the crash revealed that the vehicle belonged to Head Constable Nagaraj. When enquired, he said the vechicle was driven by one Rajkumar on that day. Hence Rajkumar was charged with causing a car accident (Section 279) and the police registered a case under the section 338 (endangering human life).

Intense scrutiny of the CCTV footage revealed that Nagaraj was the driver, not Rajkumar. Following this, Gandhipuram Traffic Police registered a case against Nagaraj.

The Deputy Commissioner of Transport, Mutharasu then recommended to the Deputy Commissioner of Armed Forces to take departmental action against Nagaraj for causing the accident and falsifying information.
