This being the case, carcasses of a leopard and a wild gaur were found near the Coonoor Karumpalam Bridge. People in the vicinity informed this to the forest department. Led by Coonoor forester Sasikumar, forest department personnel rushed to the spot for inspection.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the leopard and Indian Gaur died fighting each other last night.
According to forest officials, the fight was for food. Wild gaur is not leopard's food. Still, the Gaur was attacked on its back and fought back. Eventually both the animals died. An autopsy is underway.

Similarly, the body of a leopard cub was found on the 16th of last month. Forest officials said the leopard was killed by a tiger. It is noteworthy food was the reason for that demise too.
