Coimbatore: An ailing female elephant succumbed to her illness this morning at Povulampatti forest range in Coimbatore.
A couple of days back, the female elephant was spotted in a very weak state by the locals of Borathi village next to Poluvampatti forest range. Since then, foresters and a team led by Senior Veterinarian Sukumar were treating the pachyderm with antibiotics and IV fluids.
However, not responding to the treatment, the elephant estimated to be around 12-year-old succumbed to Illness, today.
The series of elephant deaths in Coimbatore forest range has left the wildlife activists and environmentalists in a perturbed state. The veterinarians have opined that all elephants that have died recently have been suffering from liver-related disease and dehydration, resulting to their death.
They also suspect that the elephants feeding on crops sprayed with fertilisers could also be a trigger for their illness.
