Coimbatore: It has come as a shock to see more than a hundred citizens being served at a liquor bar in Kovilmedu liquor store while a full curfew was in place in Tamilnadu on Sunday due to the corona infection.

There have been many reports of alcohol being sold illegally in many places and in particular in the Kovilmedu store. In addition to selling illegally, the store people do not allow anyone to stand near the store for fear of not being captured.

Proof of this was the crowd of liquor lovers at liquor store number 1625 on Thadagam Road in Kovilmedu.  More than a hundred liquor drinkers were drinking inside. Liquor bars are prohibited from operating and are only allowed to be sold in bottles.

Denouncing the Tamilnadu government orders, more than 100 liquor lovers were drinking alcohol inside the bar. The shop staff did not immediately close the door to the liquor store and sent more people inside as more than 20 liquor lovers were waiting on the road.

The liquor store staff locked the drinkers inside without sending out those who bought liquor and the staff also turned off the lights to help those who were drinking inside.

As a result, liquor lovers wandered in and out of the area. The people of the area blamed the police for not knowing this despite a checkpoint being nearby. Hopefully now that this has been brought out in the public domain, at least now these kind of transgressors can be brought to justice.
