Tirupur: There are a lot of cows reared around the Aliyar Dam near Pollachi. It is commonplace for the cows to graze on the banks of the dam.

This being the case, a cow that was grazing near the dam fell into the water three days ago. Because of the incessant rains in the catchment areas, the water inflow is high because of which rescue operations were not able to be undertaken. Under the circumstances, PWD officials in charge of the dam alerted Fire Department personnel who rushed to the spot and retrieved the carcass of the cow after three days.

Fire Department officials said, "We could not rescue the cow due to the continuous rains. We joined hands with the Forest Department and used heavy-duty ropes to pull the dead animal from the reservoir. We request the people in this area to not allow their cattle near the dam."
